The novelty of it all (update)

Time to pause & celebrate a bit since I’ve nearly reached the halfway mark of my first foray into serializing a novel.

I’m happy to report it’s going even better than I’d hoped (surprise, surprise). Dividing longer chapters into shorter episodes has proved fairly easy, but deciding what to keep, cut, or add in order to make the transitions smooth has been a bit of a challenge—but right up my alley.

Of course, starting with a completed, unpublished novel that’s been gathering dust for a few years allows me to focus less on the plotline & more on the process. In addition, the story takes place in the same fictional world as Pearl Fields and the Oregon Meltdown.

In case I haven’t already mentioned, Pearl, aka Sunny, plays such a pivotal role in this original novel I’m serializing that I decided to write a short story with her as the central character which quickly evolved into a standalone novel I self-published late last year (see the cover image above for more details).

Anyway, break’s over. Time to imagine myself back out on the Alsea River so I can decide what happens next.

Till next time,

Drew
