Message in a Bottle


Not sure what really drives me on to write these posts. Granted, early on the volume of traffic on my blog was substantial enough to make the writing time I dedicate to these posts worthwhile. But given that the number of visitors & views has steadily declined over the past few months toward the single digit range, my enthusiasm in that regard should have waned. Oddly enough, it hasn’t.

I realize that pundits & coaches & influencers in the independent author world would no doubt encourage me to continue putting myself & my novel out on various & sundry social media platforms in order to draw more visitors to this site. But truth be told, that’s not me.

In addition to this writer’s blog, I do have accounts on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, and the like. Honestly, I don’t put much effort into keeping up with any of them.

Bottom line is I’m not a social media person. I’m a writer who self-published a novel, is currently serializing its unpublished predecessor on Kindle Vella, & would like to go on living the rest of my life enjoying a casual relationship with social media.

So you might ask, dear reader, why in the world do I write these posts?

Truth be told, I enjoy them for their intrinsic value. Once a week, I give a few minutes of my coveted writing time to jotting what’s essentially a message in a bottle to an unknown—and perhaps nonexistent—reader with the full knowledge that I don’t have to do it.

I simply choose to do so.
