Not long ago, I was busy slogging my way through the final proofreading phase of Core Haven, my serialized companion novel, & about to post some episodes on Kindle Vella for the first time.
Then the Amazon Hammer came crashing down on that fledgling platform with a surprise announcement that the lights were going out sometime in February.
Some KV authors suggest bailing on the whole enterprise, but I decided to go ahead with my original plan as a learning experience before looking into another platform like Medium or Buy Me a Coffee.
So over the last month I’ve averaged posting one episode a day on Kindle Vella. At the time of this writing, I have 34 live installments available for your perusal & the remainder in the wings. I’m as confident as a self-publishing author can be that the rest of the installments will be accessible before the cutoff date for authors to post new episodes in a couple weeks.
If you’re not familiar with how Kindle Vella works, you might give it a look before Amazon pulls the plug in three months.
The basic setup is that readers can access the first 10 episodes of any story for free, then easily buy tokens to unlock the rest. For example, the 33 locked episodes of Core Haven should cost less than four bucks to read all told.
As you can guess, a thumbs-up from you on any & all episodes would be welcome, as well as “favs” for the story itself (limited to one per week per reader). Following a story means you’ll get a notification each time I post a new episode.
Finally, if you’re not a fan of reading on your phone, laptop, or computer, you can wait till January when I recombine the episodes into novel form & publish Core Haven on the Kindle Store in both ebook & paperback format—unless, of course, Amazon drops another hammer here or there.
Till next time.
Drew
