So I may have miscalculated a bit when I put my upcoming release Core Haven on ice & took a quick dive into the first prewriting stage of my next project. I’ll pass it off to thinking it’d be easy to adjust my proofreading filter to an idea-generating one & back again like I was zooming a camera lens in & out.
It all went great for the first few prewriting sessions, but then I started feeling bogged down enough to make an unforced error.
Yeah, I went back to proofreading Core Haven without refocusing the lens, so to speak. The next thing I knew, I was taking notes about one revision after another as I tweaked descriptions, added dialogue, & even swapped out character names.
But that’s where I draw the line.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about writing fiction, it’s that when I slide into a rabbit hole enough to start switching names & whatnot during the final stretch, I need to back away, go for a nice long walk, enjoy the scenery, & even consider other hobbies.
Maybe I’ll take up whittling—nah, I already do enough of that when it comes to taking care of my final proofreading list, one revision at a time till it’s a wrap.
Till next time.

My completed serialized companion novel, Core Haven, is available now on Kindle Vella till Amazon pulls the plug in February—if you happen to have 330 KV tokens burning a hole in your digital pocket. Otherwise you’ll have to wait till April when I launch it as an ebook on the Kindle Store.
My first self-published novel, Pearl Fields and the Oregon Meltdown, is currently available on the Kindle Store & Kindle Unlimited.
